Called into Barnstaple branch this afternoon to enquire about hiring a car for the weekend. I was told that it was not possible by branch manager. As I have several hire car requirements over the next couple of weeks I asked about other dates. The branch manager Scott something told me that he had told me twice don't make him tell me again HE IS NOT GOING TO HIRE ME A CAR. I tried to ask about other possibilities when he told me "LOOK I HAVE TOLD YOU 3 TIMES I AM NOT GOING TO HIRE YOU A CAR DON'T ASK AGAIN" I will put up with poor customer service but this felt quite threatening. I have never written a review before, I have never felt threatened when trying to pay for a service before. I am outraged. I am making a complaint to head office. I did not even get to ask about the car I need in 2 weeks.
Hired a car from here and Tony was very helpful...had to change my hire by a day at short notice and i thought it would cost me more but nope they swapped my date at no extra cost and was happy to help (having a spare car helped so this may not always be the case) used Thrifty before and always got great customer service...will be back...Nigel
Phoned to book a van for Friday after 1pm, ( as I don't finish work till 1pm ). Got to the reception desk ( about 2pm ) only to be told my booking had been cancelled, as the manager had booked my pick up time as 9.00am.The desk worker I found to be very rude, sarcastic, undermining, snidey & basically very unhelpful. When I asked him why I would book a van for 9.00am, when I don't finish work till 1.00pm, he said I'd have to take it up with the manager on the Monday morning, but I had a feeling he was insinuating it was me that was in the wrong.He did offer me a bigger van at a higher price, but when he said I'd have to wait an hour while it was being cleaned, I decided to take my business elsewhere and went to Badger Van Hire, a little bit more expensive but walked in there to a very pleasant manager, who within ten minutes had done the paperwork, and I was off in the van of my choice.Would I use these again, erm.... NO !
Booked online, they did not mention their criteria regarding penalty on my licence and renting a car from them. Paid 120 for car rental, they then called me and told me that because of the penalty on my license from 2 years ago they could not let me hire a car.I asked for my money back, they refused to refund me. When I explained that I needed the car to transport my disabled child to visit their mother for Christmas they said that they could not help me. I then asked them to at least refund me so that I could try with another car hire company. They said no refund. I then called main office and spoke to a very arrogant lady who told me that the only way for me to have a refund was for me to procure them a new customer, after that they may consider refunding me.Basically I got ripped off and blackmailed into drumming up more business for them in order to get my refund.Needless to say that thrifty never refunded me.AVOID this company they are dishonest.
Antony gave a first class service. We needed a car quickly to enable us to go on a booked holiday as ours need unexpected repairs. Great service all round and would use again and recommend to others. K.Moore
